On Domino, Daphne is getting used to having a body again. Her confidence is low and she doesn’t have her powers anymore, which is made worse by her parents throwing a party in her honor, which a lot of people will attend. The party gets crashed by the monster sent by the Trix to destroy her, Bloom, and the entire planet. With the help of their Guardians of Sirenx, the Winx find the Inspiration of Sirenix which brings Daphne’s power back. She gets more confident after that and chases the monster away.
The confidence will come in handy since she became the History of Magic professor at Alfea. Her first class gets interrupted by the pixies who host a party to celebrate Faragonda’s 100th anniversary as headmistress. Even the party is cut short, however. Pixie Village gets attacked by the mythical Gloomy Wood trolls and they go back to defend it. The trolls suddenly vanish without a trace, taking most of the pixies with them.
The new school year has brought along new students of Cloud Tower. Selina, a young witch from Earth demonstrates her special power and artifact to Headmistress Griffin. By reading from her book, the Legendarium, she can bring any monster to life, and control it. She is the one who read the story of the Gloomy Wood trolls, making them appear at Pixie Village. Once she has proven herself, Griffin tells her to stop, so they vanish.
Before the classes officially start, the Trix break into the Tower and take it over, turning Griffin into a crow and recruiting Selina to help them conquer the Magic Dimension, along with the other students of the school. Meanwhile, the Specialists invite the Winx to watch them train at Linphea College. They train with Linphea’s paladins but get interrupted by Cloud Tower flying towards them. Shortly after, Linphea College gets attacked by their own legendary creatures.
The Winx go to Cloud Tower and confront the Trix. They also attack the Legendarium directly which makes them all lose their powers, except for Bloom. Back at Alfea, Faragonda explains that’s because her Dragon Flame is inextinguishable. Bloom then shares pieces of her power with her friends, enabling them to get their powers back and earn a new transformation.
Until they can earn it, the Winx train at Alfea, using Aisha’s new gym. The Specialists
join them, as well as the paladins from Linphea. Nex, a paladin, and Troy, who is now a specialist, want to impress Aisha.
Flora is the first to earn the power of Bloomix while saving her sister on Linphea. She is followed by Aisha and Stella who escape the creatures sent from the Legendarium. After they chase away the witches and their creatures, saving Linphea College, their class gets invited to the Golden Auditorium, an exclusive music college. That’s also the next magic college the Trix are targeting.
When Selina reads another story from Legendarium, its pages reveal a wizard, Acheron, whom she is working with. Musa and Tecna save the Golden Auditorium from the pandemonium sprites, the creatures that inhabit its underground tunnels. They have been arguing all day, so by working together, the two fairy friends earn their Bloomix.
During Daphne’s coronation to become the crown princess of Domino, the Trix and Selina send fire eaters after Bloom, opening up the Vortex of Flames, a place where keepers of the Dragon Flame used to test their abilities, but which has since become uncontrollable. After she gets thrown into the Vortex by Sky’s ex-fiance, Disapro, Bloom is forced to find the strength within herself and fight the beast that resides within it. Once she does, she earns Bloomix and defeats the fire eaters.
Sometime after that, Daphne and Faragonda tell the Winx that the Trix possess the Legendarium. Since they cannot destroy it, they must lock it. To do that, they need to find the diary of the Fairy Godmother, the fairy who guarded the Legendarium before it fell into the wrong hands. In the diary, she wrote all of the book’s secrets. They start their search in the Lost Library of Alexandria. The mission to find the diary must be kept secret so they tell everyone they are going on a school trip.
At the library, the Winx encounter ancient mummies, sent by Selina. Once they are defeated, a sphinx starts wreaking havoc on the city of Alexandria. While the other Winx try to contain it, Bloom goes back to the Library and looks for the diary. Acheron sends Selina to do the same. At the diary’s chamber, Bloom and Selina meet for the first time since they were both kids on Earth. The two used to be close friends. Since Bloom doesn’t know Selina is the one responsible for the attacks, she tries to help her once the chamber starts collapsing, but Selina disappears. Before the chamber fully collapses, Bloom finds the diary.
Following the Fairy Godmother’s notes, they arrive in China. The Trix unmask themselves but leave before the fight. Continuing their mission, the Winx save the Shrine of the Golden Dragon. As thanks, the last dragon tamer who lives there gives them the Fairy Godmother’s favourite flower. The fairies go back to Alfea to identify it. At the school, Selina tries to poison Flora and it becomes clear she is working with the Trix.
After some trial and error, Flora is able to identify the flower and learn it only grows in Gardenia. Bloom remembers a field where she and Selina used to play and pretend to be fairies. The field was full of the same kind of flower. Once the Winx go there, the Fairy Godmother, Eldora, tells them she thought Selina fairy magic. She also tells them how she stole the Legendarium from her and left, being tempted by its power. It turns out that Selina made a deal with the creator of the book, Acheron, who is trapped within its pages.
To find out how to lock the Legendarium, the Winx obtain the seven wands which were once owned by the seven ancestral fairies who crossed over from the Legendarium World into the real one. The wands grant them a new power – Mythix. It is used to travel to that world: the world where all the stories are real. There, they find out that they must forge the Legendarium Key, which is made up of the Fantasy Emerald and the Silver Spear.
While fighting zombie pirates in the Legendarium World, the Winx find the Fantasy Emerald. The Silver Spear, on the other hand, is found in the real world in Canada. From these objects, the Legendarium Key is forged by magic. The Winx go to Cloud Tower, but Darcy makes it invisible. In order to combat that, Tecna borrows a spectrographic localizer from her parents. It is a device that is used to analyse anything invisible to the human eye. However, they cannot use it right away because of its limited range.
While Tecna and Timmy work on improving the localizer’s range, Musa finds an abandoned room at Alfea and converts it into a music café. To protect the school from the witches’ attacks, Musa decides to harness the power of music to create a magical barrier around it. The Trix and Selina stop that plan by sending Rumpelstiltskin, a cunning being from the Legendarium, to steal Musa’s voice.
Rumpelstiltskin won’t return her voice without something equally as valuable in return. While the Winx think about what to give him, Musa acts as a conductor at a student concert of Alfea. She harnesses the power of their music and it proves strong enough to protect the school. In the end, the Winx decide to give Rumpelstiltskin the Legendarium key in return for her voice.
As the Trix and their army of invisible Cloud Tower witches attack Alfea, the improved spectrographic localizer makes them visible again. Instead of the groups attacking each other, the Trix suggest a duel between the strongest fairy and their strongest witch. The winner would decide what to do with the team of the loser. Bloom and Selina are chosen as representatives of the schools. Contrary to the Trix’s plan, Selina steals a spark of Bloom’s Dragon Flame and gives up.
She uses the stolen spark to free Acheron from the Legendarium, betraying the Trix. Once he’s free, the wizard traps them in the book and double-crosses Selina so that only he may rule the Magic Dimension. She then asks Bloom for help.
Acheron summons the Great Lizard Spirit of Cloud Tower to attack the Winx. To defeat him, Bloom goes into the Legendarium World and he follows her. While the wizard isn’t looking, she opens the Infinity Box which Eldora gave the Winx. Since it can hold any magic object, Acheron gets trapped inside of it. Bloom then trades it with Rumpelstiltskin for the Legendarium Key.
Before she can leave the Legendarium World, the Trix attack Bloom and she is almost defeated. By remembering her friends and family and finding strength inside herself while doing so, she is able to trap the witches inside bubbles and leave them in the Legendarium World. Meanwhile, Selina returns all the magic power that the Trix stole from other magical schools which destroys the Great Lizard Spirit. Bloom then gives her the Key and Selina locks the Legendarium and returns it to Eldora. She also continues to be the Fairy Godmother’s student.
