Headmistress Faragonda tasks the Winx with planning the grand opening party of Alfea Natural Park. It is a safe haven for all fairy animals to live in perfect harmony with each other. They look around it, taking in all the wonderful creatures. However, their visit is disturbed when a sorceress, disguised as a bird of prey, kidnaps the last living digmole. It is a fairy animal that loves to dig holes in the ground. The sorceress, Kalshara, traps the digmole in her layer, along with the other fairy animals she has caught. She plans to use them to make an army for herself. To do that, she has to gain the Ultimate Power of the Fairy Animals. The digmoles were entrusted with the secret of that Power so she attempts to make the one she captured reveal it.
The Winx each get a Stone of Memories, which is used to travel back in time. Faragonda explains that each fairy animal has its own power or secret which could be dangerous if misused. Since there are no living digmoles except for the kidnapped one in the present, they go to the past to find their secret out. The Stones take them to a past version of Alfea when it was filled with fairy animals, and training them was a part of each fairy’s education at the school.
At this time, Kalshara is a student at Alfea, who absorbs a chaotic and aggressive energy called “wild magic” from the Fairy Animals Hall at the school, to get more powerful. As a consequence, she and her brother, Brafilius, gain animal-like features, along with shapeshifting powers. They try to capture the digmoles but the Winx stop them. By doing so, they all earn a new power, except for Roxy, – Butterflix. They also end up saving the species of digmoles from extinction as multiple of them are seen in the present after that.
Back in the present time, Roxy uses her magic to understand the digmoles and learns that the only way to gain the Ultimate Power of the Fairy Animals is to find the animal with the first colour of the universe. They set out on a search to find that animal before Kalshara and Brafilius.
Their search starts at Alfea Natural Park. Unfortunately, none of the animals there are ancient enough to have the first color of the universe. Roxy then gets an idea to go back to prehistory and look for the cry-cries. While she’s talking with the animals, Brafilius manages to steal Roxy’s Stone of Memories, making her unable to travel to the past.
The other Winx go back in time and find the cry-cries, but it turns out that they’re not the right animals either. Nevertheless, Aisha bonds with one of them and takes him back to the present with her. During that mission, it’s revealed that the Butterflix power cannot hurt nature. Their next mission takes them to Linphea, where they save a pack of magiwolves from mutant fungi which have been attacking them. Flora bonds with one of them and he comes with her to school, as well. Finally, in the Middle Ages, on Earth, Musa bonds with a quillcat and does the same.
Kalshara kidnaps Musa’s quilcat, Critty. After checking, it turns out she is not the fairy animal with the first colour of the universe. The Winx come to save her but are caught in a trap. Kalshara and Brafilius have hypnotised all the animals they have been holding captive and are now forcing them to attack the fairies. Stella manages to save one of them and the two bond. Then they free the rest of them together.
In a jungle on Earth wild magic transforms animal poachers into monsters. After saving them, the Winx decide to open an animal rescue park at Gardenia to make a safe space for all the animals who need help. The animals that live at the park are cared for and released back into their natural habitat once they are ready for it. Roxy ends up working at the park. She has also been helping her friends find out which animals need their help by using her technomagic globes. After one of them gets broken, the fairy friends go to Zenith to get it fixed. While there, Tecna saves her planet from destruction and bonds with a techsquirrel.
A unicorn corrupted by wild magic starts attacking the pandas. The Winx all go to China to help them, but end up getting trapped by the unicorn except for Bloom. She heals it and they bond. All the Winx Club fairies have bonded fairy animals after that.
Once all the bonded fairy animals learn to work together, a magical event occurs. They each get to know that they are the guardians of the Ultimate power. As such, they give their Winx fairies magical bracelets that contain the power of Tynix which enables them to enter the dimensions known as “the miniworlds”.It also enables the fairy animals to talk.
On the planet Oppositus, Kalshara and Brafilius disrupt the balance between fairy magic and wild magic by trapping the guardian of fairy magic. Because of that, fairy magic is in danger of disappearing. The Winx save it by entering the Rainbow Miniworld and restoring the rainbow-coloured sphere within it. The guardian then helps them by telling them that the animal with the ultimate power is related to the fairies’ power. Kalshara and Brafilius overhear that and assume that the animal in question is one of the Winx’s bonded fairy animals.
Brafilius enchants the Stones of Memories owned by the Winx and they get turned into kids. This enables him and his sister to trap all of their fairy animals. He ends up accidentally releasing Stella’s fairy animal himself, during a fight with the little Winx. Stella’s bird then releases the rest of them. Brafilius and Kashara retreat and Bloom’s unicorn returns the Winx to their actual age.
Before heading to Alfea, the Winx go to Ethiopia and return its weather to normal. At the end of the mission, they find a digmole who tells them it’s looking for its bonded fairy, Faragonda. Once at Alfea, they introduce the digmole to their headmistress and she thinks it is her long-lost fairy animal. Bloom notices a statue from the Hall of the Fairy Animals on Faragonda’s desk and concludes that the ultimate power of the fairy animals resides inside it.
The Winx enter the statue’s miniworld and find out that the Ultimate Power is in a diamond. However, once they find it, it makes the world unstable and floats away. Faragonda’s digmole turns out to be Kalshara in disguise and she steals the Power. She is about to use it for herself, but Brafilius steals it from her and absorbs it.
He evokes the most powerful animals of the entire Magic Dimension. As a result, three animals appear near him, but so do the Trix, who are bonded with them. They chase Kalshara away and turn Brafilius into a dog so they can use his new power. Then, they attack the heart of Alfea, its power source. In order to save their school, the Winx go into the heart’s miniworld to try and fix it before its light goes out.
It turns out they have to go to the past of Alfea to find the golden butterfly who can bring the heart’s light back. Once they do, they go into the Flower Miniworld where they find a golden cocoon. The Trix use Brafilius’s Stone of Memories to catch up to them and spoil their plan. Despite the witches’ attacks, the golden butterfly emerges from the cocoon and fixes the heart of Alfea, making it glow again.
In the present, the golden butterfly’s power helps ward the Trix away from Alfea. After they leave, Kalshara asks the Winx for help in saving her brother from them. They accept and find them deep underground, where the witches have merged with their animals by absorbing wild magic, which makes them even more powerful.
The Winx and Kalshara face off against the Trix, but it becomes clear that they can’t win because the witches have the Ultimate Power. Since the Winx’s fairy animals are the guardians of that power, they decide to use the ultimate spell to help their fairies. They summon the Infinity Swan who traps the Trix in a bubble. The Winx then use the Stones of Memories to trap them in limbo outside of space and time.
The Infinity Swan takes the Ultimate Power back from Brafilius and decides to guard it forever. Kalshara then tosses him away since he’s no longer useful to her. A group of creatures pushes her into a pit of wild magic as punishment and she disappears. They take Brafilius in as one of their own and he stays in dog form, peaceful and happy.
Since their mission is over, the Winx’s fairy animals say their goodbyes to their bonded fairies. The Winx then return to Alfea. A party is held at the Alfea Natural Park.
