This movie takes place somewhere after season 4, or during it. Due to many inconsistencies in the plots of the two, it’s not possible to tell exactly when. The Winx are Believix fairies in the movie, but Bloom and Sky’s engagement from “The Secret of the Lost Kingdom” apparently hasn’t happened. Nabu is present in this movie, while in the next season, Aisha is grieving the loss of him.
A celebration gets hosted at Alfea where the fairies and the witches of Cloud Tower are invited. Things go wrong when the Trix attack out of the blue. The Winx stop them, but not before they steal something. While that’s going on, Bloom is in her palace on Domino. She finds it hard to adjust to her new royal lifestyle. To make her happier, Oritel and Marion give her a horse, Peg.
Sky comes to visit Bloom and proposes to her. She accepts and they set the date of their wedding on the first day of spring. Oritel and Marion are overjoyed while Sky’s father, Erendor, is against their marriage. He tells his son how he once betrayed the kingdom of Domino.
When the ancestral witches were attacking the worlds of Magic Dimension, he promised to protect the planet until Oritel and Marion returned from their battles. Once the witches learned this, they destroyed Eraklyon’s city of Avram to scare Erendor into letting them attack Domino. In return, the rest of his planet would be spared once all the others were destroyed. They gave him an hourglass which contained the pollen from the Tree of Life. It protected Eraklyon from the negative energy that all the other conquered planets were exposed to.
After hearing that, Sky calls the wedding off without explanation. This turns Bloom’s world upside down. The Winx come to visit her, but not even they can help. Oritel attempts to make her feel better by having her meet different potential suitors, but it only worsens the situation. Especially as Sky sneaks into the castle to talk to Bloom and Oritel to explain himself. Oritel refuses to listen to him and bans him from his kingdom. This angers Bloom and she leaves for Gardenia, along with the rest of the Winx.
At Gardenia, the fairy friends come to live with Bloom’s adoptive parents. Shortly, they discover they cannot use magic anymore. Faragonda calls them and explains this has been the case for all fairies across the Magic Dimension.
By destroying Obsidian in the previous movie, the Winx freed the ancestral witches from their prison. Now, they command the Trix. Guided by their ancestors, The Trix stole an artifact from Alfea and with it, located Pixie Village. In this movie, the Tree of Life is also called the Tree of Good and Evil. It represents the balance between the positive and negative energy. The Trix made the negative energy overtake the Tree, which took all the fairy magic away, amplifying the one of witches.
Oritel and Marion go to Gardenia to talk to Bloom after discovering why Sky acted the way he had, but she is too angry at Oritel to listen. The Winx are picked up by the Specialists to head off to Eraklyon to meet with Sky. Together, everyone heads to the city of Avram. Along the way, Sky explains to Bloom that after the witches destroyed Domino, Erendor was consumed by guilt. He returned to Avram and broke the hourglass. From the pollen grew a new plant which still contains the positive energy of the Tree of Life to this day. It could save the fairy magic.
On Avram, the group has to navigate all kinds of traps. They get lost amidst the fog in the city, almost get crushed by moving walls, navigate a maze, and have to see past various illusions. Once Bloom and Sky reach the plant, Icy and her ancestor are there as well. The rest of the Winx and Specialists fight Darcy and Stormy.
Icy does her best to destroy her enemies. She starts rapidly attacking them, but gets too hasty and accidentally destroys the little sapling of the Tree. By doing that, she releases the positive energy from it and gives the Winx their magic back. As punishment, the ancestral witches possess the Trix’s bodies and fight the Winx themselves.
The Winx start losing. Each of them falls against the witches’ spells. When Bloom is nearly killed, Erendor lunges in front of her and sacrifices himself to save her. King Oritel knocks the witches away after that, which is enough to distract them and give the Winx time to recover. Together, they cast a convergence spell and finally destroy the ancestral witches.
The pollen from the plan is spent after that, and the girls lose their powers again. Oritel uses the remains of it collected on his sword to revive Erendor. Due to Erendor’s sacrifice and Oritel’s selflessness, the magical balance is restored, and all the positive energy returns to the Magical Dimension.
