Flora- Fairy of Nature
Flora is originally from the planet Linphea (or The Fifth Moon of Marigold in the 4kids dub’s first season). She has a younger sister named Miele (AKA “Rose ” in the 4kids dub) and two parents; Alyssa and Rhodos, whom she visits whenever she has the chance, along with the rest of her family who live there. (according to Introducing myself: I’m Flora!) She is described as the fairy of nature in some instances, while in others she is the fairy of flowers. Her bonded pixie is Chatta, the minifairy of chatter. (according to a version of the official Winx Club website from 2009)
There isn’t much information on Flora’s life before she enrolled in Alfea and became a Winx fairy, however it is known that she misses Linphea’s landscapes, colours, and harmonies, when she’s at school. (according to the book “Enciclomagia”) She also loves experimenting with plants, even creating completely new ones, as shown in the first season of the show.
Flora’s kindness and intelligence have been apparent since the first moment she appeared on our TV screens. As Bloom introduces herself to Flora, Kiko attempts to eat one plant she created. Instead of getting angry, Flora simply conjures him a few carrots to munch on instead.
Later in the first season, she encounters some water nymphs who are in need of a specific plant which they use to build their homes and stay safe from predators. Unfortunately, they can’t grow it themselves and their supplies are limited. Flora uses the potion she created in order to multiply the supplies, enabling the nymphs to live safely and without worries.
But perhaps her most notable act of kindness during Flora’s first year at Alfea was when she used her skills to undo the spell placed upon the ex-witch, Mirta, who had been turned into a pumpkin by Icy. Despite the spell being very powerful, Flora worked relentlessly to save the girl she barely knew from the dark magic she had fallen victim to.
In the second season of the show, Flora met Helia, a quiet specialist with a love for drawing and poetry. Despite liking each other, Flora’s shyness prevented her from expressing her feelings for Helia. With Aisha’s help, she managed to overcome her insecurities and the two have been in a very romantic and healthy relationship ever since.
She became the guardian fairy of Linphea once she graduated from Alfea, by earning her Enchantix, like every other Winx fairy. She sacrificed herself to save her sister once she was in danger, through which she proved herself to be worthy of such power.
In the sixth season of the show, professor Palladium named Flora the caretaker of Alfea’s greenhouse, which had been out of use since the fairy godmother, Eldora, stopped teaching at the school.
Flora is one of the kindest and most selfless characters in the show. She’s also dubbed the most powerful member of the Winx Club, after Bloom, by the show’s creator, Iginio Straffi, and it’s not hard to see why. She cares deeply about the people she loves, about the beings who are not able to defend themselves, and about nature. She will not hesitate to protect them at any cost. She is a sweet, romantic soul, who will conjure carnivorous plants around you if you mess with her.
